Srikurmam is one of the very few temples in India dedicated to Kurma, the tortoise avatar of Vishnu. Unusually, the sanctum faces west rather than the customary east, and the deity is worshipped in its two-faced tortoise form alongside a separate idol of Lakshmi.
విష్ణువు కూర్మావతారానికి అంకితమైన అరుదైన ఆలయాల్లో శ్రీకూర్మం ఒకటి. సాధారణంగా తూర్పు ముఖంగా ఉండే గర్భాలయం ఇక్కడ పడమర ముఖంగా ఉండటం విశేషం; రెండు తలల కూర్మ స్వరూపంతో పాటు లక్ష్మీదేవి విగ్రహం కూడా ప్రత్యేకంగా కొలువుదీరి ఉంది.
