Located on the banks of the Godavari river, Basara is one of only two major Saraswati temples in India dedicated to the goddess of knowledge and learning. It is an especially popular destination for Akshara Abhyasam, the ceremony marking a child's initiation into learning letters, drawing families from across the country.
