Amaravati Amareswara Temple, on the banks of the Krishna river, is one of the Pancharama Kshetras — five ancient Shiva temples in Andhra Pradesh believed to enshrine pieces of a single primordial lingam. The temple's lingam is notably tall, and the site sits beside the ruins of the historic Amaravati Buddhist stupa, giving the town a layered religious history.
